Mahjong Rules
Setup
This browser Mahjong table has four seats. You play East, and the other seats are AI opponents. The wall contains the 136 suited and honor tiles used for core Mahjong hand building.
Turn order
Players take turns drawing from the wall and discarding one tile. The next player then draws unless someone claims the discard.
Melds
A chow is a sequence of three suited tiles, such as 3-4-5 bamboo. A pong is three identical tiles. A kong is four identical tiles. Honor tiles can form pongs and kongs but not chows.
Winning
A standard winning hand has four melds and one pair. Melds already exposed on the table count toward the four melds, while the remaining concealed tiles must complete the rest of the hand.
Claims
When an opponent discards a useful tile, claim buttons appear if you can win, pong, kong, or chow. Chow is available only from the player immediately before you.
